SEASHELLS
Part of the fun of collecting seashells is using them in assorted craft projects. Whether simply filling a frame with shells, creating sailor valentines, making sculptures, decorating jewelry boxes or creating shell animals, there are endless options for shell crafts. Create a shell dog using an assortment of shells including long and thin varieties as well as tiny periwinkles. Give shell dog and other shell critters as gifts or try selling them at craft fairs and flea markets. Shell crafts also work as a craft project for school or scout troop.
Things You will Need
Hot glue
Googly eyes
Black marker
Glue two same-size auger shells together so the fat end on one meets the thin end on the other with hot glue. Do the same thing with more more auger shells, then stack the shells on top of one another. This is your dog "body." Allow the glue to dry for about five minutes.
Attach a scallop shell to the one end of the shell body using hot glue, the inside of the shell should be facing the shell body. This is your dog "face." Allow the glue to dry for five minutes.
Glue a smaller auger or other thin shell on the back of the shell body with hot glue as your dog "tail." Glue the fatter part of the shell to the shell body so the thinner part of the shell is pointing upwards. Allow the glue to dry for five minutes, prop the tail and body against a book or piece of cardboard so the tail stays in place while it is drying.
Place four periwinkle shells along the bottom of the shell body and secure with hot glue. These are your dog "paws." Glue two more periwinkle shells slightly behind the top of the scallop shell as your dog "ears." Allow the glue to dry for five minutes.
Glue a pair of googly eyes on the scallop shell and use black marker to draw a dog mouth. Allow the glue to dry for five minutes and display as desired.
